I have two adolescent daughters, so I chose this section to review. I really enjoyed the graphic video which introduced us to the differences between adolescent boys and girls, it was lighthearted and informative. The written portions after the video were clear and concise. Though there were no clear headings and subheadings the whole section flows seamlessly. The discussion regarding different physical attributes is followed by physiological differences in lung development and function. I had not realized that our lung development is different based on gender and that these differences make women more susceptible to smoke and cancer. I would like to see some research numbers supporting the claim that women are more likely to develop lung cancer than men. In physical difference section I appreciated the information regarding increased laxity in females due to hormones and that such knowledge can be used to protect girls and women against injury in sports. What are the muscular and nervous system changes the writer alluded to during this section?
The infographic regarding changes in a girl's body through puberty is great. Is there a way to do a comparative info graph showing the corresponding changes in a male body so the differences could be seen immediately can enhance the presentation. This point is clearly seen in the next graphic which shows the sex hormone release and the different changes it brings in male vs female bodies. It is well chosen!
The next video regarding differences in nervous system maturity is fantastic! It clearly explains a great deal about the earlier emotional maturity we see in adolescent girls vs boys their age. I had seen these differences over the past few years as my girls and their friends grew and matured differently depending on their gender. After reading this section I have a better understanding regarding the whys and hows !
The next section regarding the teenage brain with its waffle brain vs spaghetti brain in girls is simply genius ! I loved that analogy and how that helped to lay out the difference clearly without too much fuss.
The references are in correct APA format.
The section achieved its purpose through videos, infographic and referenced articles to inform other healthcare professionals regarding the fundamental physical and physiological differences between adolescent girls and boys .
