Feedback Unit 5 - Adolescence and Mental Health
Hi Sterling,
Reviewing your group’s Weebly submission on adolescence
and conventional medicine, I was struck by how you provided a clear introduction
on what to expect in the rest of the section in question. As well you head
each section with a nice statistical infographic, which provides a quick and
notice-grabbing bite of information that helped me to understand the prevalence
of mental health difficulties in your chosen demographic, and more
specifically, in females of this group.
Description of the differences between male and female adolescents
and mental health was clear. I am very impressed that you included commentary
on how mistakes have been made in the medical treatment of mental health
conditions in youth, such as how anti-depressive medications can have the
opposite effect compared to adults. This and the YouTube video on how some medications
can make anxiety worse showed great insight into the topic. I feel as an
informational website, this provides the public with an even-handed insight
into the pitfalls of “just take the doctor’s word for it”.
Might I suggest a more developed conclusion/implications
section after the last video? While this is a call to action for clinicians, it
could benefit from a more parental and adolescent-focused discussion. A few references were inconsistently formatted, but a brief review can address
this.
Your page's inclusion of complementary therapies and their importance are pivotal. Your research and citations supported
this, as did the last video. All four aspects of the
assignment were easily noted, and the writing flowed logically from beginning
to end. Thank you for your thorough submission.
Regards,
Fiona
